It’s not easy for me to find music that I can listen to while I’m working. I tried classical music, but it calmed me down so much that I almost fell asleep. And, since I’m a writer, anything with lyrics gets me too caught up in the words (and I end up mixing the lyrics into the middle of my writing).

But now I’ve finally found the perfect work album – Crystal Method’s Tweekend. I loved these guys when they released their last album, Vegas – way back in 1997 – and I still love them. And while Tweekend was a long time in coming, it was definitely worth the wait.

Hollywood picked up on the new album almost instantly. You’ll definitely recognize “Name of the Game” when you hear it – because you most likely hear snippets of it everywhere you turn.

From the very first deep, heavy beat of “PHD,” Tweekend does a better job of waking me up than a cup of strong coffee ever could – and it keeps me working. And though the songs are often repetitive, that doesn’t really matter when you’re working, does it? And sure, there are words (which, I might add, may not be appropriate for the kiddies – but there’s also an edited version available) here and there, but they seem to be just a part of the music – just another instrument.

If it were up to me, they’d pump Tweekend through the local library. Not only would it help me get something accomplished, but it would also drown out the screaming kids.

Oh, yeah… and as an added bonus, Tweekend is also an excellent party CD. When your work’s done, crank up the volume, and it’ll make you dance till you can’t dance anymore. But be sure to invite the neighbors – else, they may get jealous and call the cops.
