I came across this CD the other day and wondered why I’d never heard of Jet Set Satellite. So I dropped it in my CD player – and now I understand.

These guys tried. Really, they did. But that’s the problem. They tried a little too hard to be alternative. The entire album is a close-but-not-close-enough attempt to be edgy – like STP or maybe Nine Inch Nails – but it just doesn’t quite make it. Instead, it ends up sounding like a TV commercial parody of an alternative band.

The vocals aren’t quite there, either. In trying to give his voice that cool, strained sound that’s so popular these days (you know, like Gavin from Bush, just to name one), the singer ends up missing a lot of notes by just enough to make my ears hurt.

Maybe if these guys tried to be themselves (instead of trying to sound like rock stars), I’d like them more. But I think I’ll just return Blueprint back to it’s place on the CD rack.
