A low rumbling escapes the speakers, soft guitar comes in overhead, strings are plucked rhythmically, a steady build-up, then it goes softer, steam begins to once again build, then, then the skies open up in an electric deluge spilling over to the second song. All has culminated to one heck of an intro to the new Remy Zero CD, The Golden Hum.
This is the band’s third album – and what an incredible musical piece they created. This disc is much edgier than there last one, Villa Elaine. Remy Zero has powerful vocals, which are showcased very well in each song, especially in the song “Perfect Memory.” The band knows how to rock out and tone it down.
They have never been compared to any band, but I would put them into the class of an older sounding Radiohead. But please be assured, I base that very loosely.
Remy Zero has become yet another band releasing one of their songs as an intro to prime time television. “Save Me” can be heard on the WB’s television series, Smallville. Not surprising since Warner Brothers owns Elektra Entertainment.

There are some bands that sound decent and sell lots of CD’s. This is a great-sounding band with a great album. The Golden Hum is worth owning – and paying regular price.
