Turkish pop? Huh?

Ah, daylight savings time is upon us once again, and you all know what that means? Yep, time to put the top down, pop off the T-tops, or just roll down your windows. Put your 7-11 shades on, hang your arm out the window, and put on that pretty big smile of yours 'cuz springtime is in the air! You might be looking for an update to your CD collection. Why not embrace the newness of spring with Turkish star, Tarkan?

Our Turkish brethren have found Tarkan's music in some of our bigger cities, so perhaps your task won't be so daunting in finding it. But what if you live in the boonies? With the unfortunate 'improvements' in Morpheus, it doesn't seem likely that your job will be easy. The easiest thing you can do is find him at Amazon.com. The Karma album is his latest and best. My personal favorite, and the favorite of 80 million Turks, is Kuzu Kuzu. For our non-Turkish speaking readers, the phrase kuzu kuzu gel bana means 'come to me like a baby sheep,' all shy and sexy-like. Okay, it does sound a bit weird, but don't be put off until you hear it. The translation of the first lines of this song are: 'Look, I am a broken man, restless, with nothing to hold on to. Stop missing you? Are you joking? I'm broken. Finished.'

Some call his music Latino, others call it Middle-Eastern, and old folks call it crap, but what you must remember is Tarkan is Tarkan. He has defined Turkish pop and put it on the map. Now it's in your best interest to put it in your CD player. In the very least, if there is a Turk within earshot (don't laugh, there's a big possibility at least one is residing in your community), I promise you'll be turning at least one head. Tall, dark, and feisty? What more could you ask Mother Nature to provide?
