If The Verve Pipe were to never record or tour again, the members of the band would have something to fall back on -- producing. Both drummer Donny Brown and singer/guitarist Brian VanderArk have produced albums for indie bands, Donny Brown focusing on the band, 19 Wheels.

19 Wheels released their independent album Sugareen in 2000. These Michigan rockers are slowly making it to the big time, but when they get there, they’ll be ready.

Sugareen is an excellent CD with songs that just make you feel upbeat. The first song “So Cool” is a song about what a band goes through when they first start playing shows. The lyrics start out “Got our first gig at a local bar and it wasn’t paying.” How many times have you seen Behind the Music where the band talks about playing bars and not making money?

Their release for local radio was “Broken.” The song is about a relationship gone sour. The only complaint I have about this song is that they edit out some of the words with scratching sounds. However, the unedited version of the song appears as a secret song.

They even have the slower songs that fans enjoy. “Boomtown” is just one of a couple. There is also the cover of “Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” by BTO.

Overall, the CD is awesome. However, some of the song intros have riffs that are along the same sound -- but all bands have this problem. Linkin Park for example. Oh wait, all their songs sound the same -- sorry. With this aside, I would have to give this CD an 8 -- DAMS TILING. I am anxiously awaiting their upcoming release.
