How many of you want to listen to a good hard rock CD without having to listen to how the singer’s mother or father abused him? Personally, I’m getting sick of it. It started with Korn, then Disturbed, Staind, and many other bands took over from there. Only a handful of bands have stayed away from this lyrical styling. If you want to listen to an excellent hard driving CD, Jerry Cantrell’s Degradation Trip is it.

Jerry Cantrell, the former guitarist to Alice in Chains, recently released his second solo album. It has a sound like the former grunge band, but it also has an individual feel to it. The entire album seems to have a dark feel, which is excellent for all the head-bangers. Take the song “Spiderbite” -- you can’t stop the need to head bang.

The first release off of Degradation Trip is “Anger Rising.” It begins with the simple strumming of an acoustic guitar, which leads into one heavy guitar riff. This is an excellent first release. It draws the attention of the hard-core rockers, Alice in Chains fans, and even the not-so-heavy rockers.

My favorite song off of the album is “She Was My Girl.” It just has a beat that everyone can get into. It tells the story of a girl who was this guy’s entire world. However, they are no longer together, which is breaking the guy’s heart.

Jerry also demonstrates his ability to play the guitar. Yeah, that’s right, THIS CD HAS GUITAR SOLOS! They’re excellent ones at that! It takes a talented type to put guitar solos into their work -- unlike most of the bands currently played on the radio.

It has been a long wait, but music could be on the up and up again. Degradation Trip could be the start. Guitar solos and meaningful lyrics (not people bitching about their parents) are what music needs, and Degradation Trip has them both. I’m going to give this CD a DAMS TRAIT UP or a 10.
