In my humble opinion, this is the best of the Muppet movies. It’s got the works: comedy, music, suspense, sports, and, of course, Miss Piggy on a motorcycle breaking through a stained-glass window. Not to mention that it’s set in London, one of my favorite cities.

The basic plot: Kermit and Fozzie are twin reporters, off to save their jobs by successfully covering a jewel robbery in London.

The Great Muppet Caper is full of classic dumb (but funny) humor, such as the “Kermit and Fozzie (frog and bear) are twins” gag running throughout the movie, in which no one pretends to see the resemblance at first, but then notices once it’s pointed out to them. Or the part of the movie where Miss Piggy, to impress Kermit, who’s taking her on a date, sneaks into a home owned by an older British couple (the man is played by John Cleese). The older couple notice the pig and the frog, of course, but as befits the British, they take it all in stride.

This movie may very well not be for everyone. If you never liked a movie that widely uses silly humor and occasional puns—or if you just somehow don’t like the Muppets, then maybe this one’s not for you. But if you like any of the above, mixed with a good “see if the Muppets can foil the bad guys” storyline, you’ll laugh long and loud and truly enjoy it.
