Before there was “The Red” and Wonder What’s Next, the Loeffler brothers that comprise Chevelle put together a record called Point #1. It is an independent release from the Chicago-based neo-metal band.
Point #1 incorporates the soft to loud technique used by Tool. Along with this technique, the vocals sometimes have a similar sound to Tool’s singer, Maynard James Keenan. However, those are the only two things that are common between the two groups.
The CD starts with a sweet instrumental that transitions right into the song “Point #1.” Many other songs like “Mia” and “SMA” begin with an undistorted guitar riff and then take off with the fist pumping, head banging sound any hard rocker loves.
The lyrics seem to be very personal. “Long” has some very revealing lyrics about the band. Pete Loeffler sings “Anyone lose a God, ‘cause I found a God” and continues to sing “Because he won’t leave me out in the cold/ See how the sparrow gets fed from our Lord.”
Chevelle’s Point #1 is a must for any true hard rocker. The sound that this trio puts out is absolutely amazing and mind-blowing.
