No, this isn't a porn movie for the masses...
Vin Diesel stars as Xander
Cage, a car thief who has just been caught on a third offense for stealing a
California State Senator's corvette. (Hence the code name, Triple X.)
Instead of jail, he is offered the opportunity to do something for his
country. Samuel L. Jackson is Augustus Gibbons, a veteran agent for the
National Security Agency who is recruiting new agents for a secret mission.
The government is trying to infiltrate Anarchy 99, a group of former Russian
soldiers who have a secret weapon called Silent Night.
This movie, I guess, is supposed to be a Gen-X version of James Bond.
However, it doesn't even come close. James Bond drinks Vodka Martini
(shaken, not stirred), XXX, cranberry club soda. James Bond drives (usually)
an Astin Martin, XXX a GTO. Bond always has a use for the weapons in his
car, XXX can't seem to figure a use for anything in his car. And then there
are the girls... Bond girls are glamorous and a little dangerous. XXX's
girls are pole dancers. The thing these two spies have in common, however,
are their toys. No good spy movie can do without cool toys. I especially
like XXX's multi-purpose gun and his X-ray vision binoculars.
I didn't think XXX was the best action movie I've ever seen, but it was pretty
cool. The stunts are pretty spectacular. They were a little overdone and
require a suspension of belief, but the visuals are pretty impressive, even
on television. I especially liked the snowboarding scene -- in the middle of an
avalanche.
The sequel to this movie is in the works. I don't know what they are going
to do to make it more exciting, though they could do with some better dialogue and better-looking girls.
