Just when new rock was being declared yesterday's news, Evanescence comes along to spice things up a little bit. I'm listening to their new album, and I can't bring myself to take it out of my computer driver. It really is that good. Their debut album was released recently and it's already been ordered massively across the globe. "My Immortal" and "Bring Me To Life" were featured in Marvel Comics' smash hit movie, Daredevil (see the review of the movie or the soundtrack). These two tracks put the band from Arkansas on the music map. Audiences have shown that they are thrilled by their music. Their airplay on radio stations is occurring more frequently than any current band. They have been named in the United Kingdom as the "grown-up" Linkin Park -- another rock band whose music is selling out.

The last album I reviewed was Reimaginator Redux from Paris By Night. If you enjoyed their music, then I would strongly recommend Evanescence. It has the same dark, seductive music you can't help but pump in your car stereo. However, with Evanescence, their music is much darker, more gothic, and more full of feeling and passion than anything out there. They just have more of everything you want from a rock band -- in fact, I think I need to have a reshuffle of my top five albums. Although I thought the tunes on this CD are quite similar, the meanings to every track are very different.

Having a female lead singer is very rare in a rock band. Singer Amy Lee is one of a handful of lead female vocalists to succeed. Her vocals are truly emotional. The lyrics are poetic, sorrowful, and at times deeply spiritual. Evanescence is the most stunning gothic metal band I've ever heard. She steals the show every time. If you're looking to add life to your CD collection, this is the CD for you. And if you're a Tori Amos fan, it's worth getting this album.

Evanescence has created a true masterpiece in Fallen. To date, this is the best debut of 2003.
