Carbondale, Illinois was voted by Sports Illustrated on Campus as the worst college town. Mt. Pleasant, MI probably ranks up there as well. After Carbondale was given that superlative, the town is probably down in the dumps. But that could soon change with their hometown band, Revis’ new album.

Places for Breathing is Revis’ first major label album and it is great! The disc begins with “Caught in the Rain” – the first single and the only one that has been getting airplay. This is the perfect song to begin the CD, and it sets the tone for the songs that follow.

The music on this CD is well written. The instrumentation and the vocals go well together. The harmony between both is better than any band that is currently getting airplay. It’s too bad these guys haven’t been getting the proper airplay since the industry keeps playing music that’s simple and not too technical **cough** pop punk **cough**.

There are many great songs on this CD. “Spin,” “Re Use,” and “Places for Breathing” are well composed, the lyrics are great, and they’re very catchy. However, the best song is “Living Rooms.” It’s like a mini-version of “Stairway to Heaven.” It begins with Justin Holman singing and an acoustic guitar. It then develops into a very hard rocking song when each instrument is added, one at a time.

Places for Breathing may not be getting a lot of recognition, but it is one of the best CDs put out by a new artist this year. Head out to pick it up at a discount price while it lasts.
