Each spring I am able to find a new and better way to blow off final exams and this year was no different. There was a weekend trip to Georgia, throwing things into a ceiling fan and looking for new music on the internet. Upon watching videos on LAUNCH.com, I found a really cool song. This prompted me to buy the CD. The band goes by the name Lostprophets.

Lostprophets is a six-piece band from Wales (that’s located in Great Britain). A six-piece band is pretty impressive in this era of music. The band is almost like an eight-piece bucket from KFC with only two pieces missing. However, with this many members, the group works together nicely and Start Something is a fantastic album.

Start Something has a sound similar to S.C.I.E.N.C.E. by Incubus. The album is fairly heavy with some awesome orchestral parts mixed into every track and interludes that connect many of the songs. The music basically runs non-stop from beginning to end, much like a Pink Floyd album.

The first single from this group, “Last Train Home,” is the song that caught my attention. And it's a good thing it did, because there is not a disappointing track on this CD. It keeps rocking throughout. “We Still Kill the Old Way” is a great piece to begin the album with. Distorted guitar and some heavy drumming really helps get the lead out. “Burn, Burn” is a song about The Man holding the youth of the world down. “Last Summer” begins with a sound similar to the Police and drives through with a heavy bass drum beat. The song describes any young person’s summer before heading back to school in the fall.

This CD is dynamite. The time of this writing is one of the only times the disc has left my car in the past two months. Lostprophets has found a sound unlike any other band. The mix of new wave, metal and punk make Start Something one of the best rock discs so far in 2004.
