This instrumental jazz compilation is a heartfelt tribute to the diverse musical heritage of Detroit and speaks the story of the life of this incredible violinist.

The first track covers “Don’t Git Sassy” by Thad Jones and is a perfect hook to demonstrate Carter’s amazing talent. Darryl Hall holds the bass line admirably and Werner “Vana” Gehrig makes the piano sing beautifully throughout the disc. Inspired by such greats as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and John Lee Hooker this collection features covers such as Gaye’s “Don’t Mess with Mr. T” and Wonder’s “Higher Ground” along with a couple of truly sweet originals.

“Love Theme from Spartacus" is soft and sexy, laced with wonderful solos by Marcus Belgrave on flugelhorn and James Carter on bass clarinet.

It is clear that Regina Carter has music running through her veins. At the age of three she tap danced at her very first recital to “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” which she covers with fluent grace on one of the tracks.

This disc is vintage cars, smoky bars and jitterbugging all night. If you like jazz, this baby will close your eyes and lift you right off your feet.
