I must say that I was skeptical about seeing this movie—but I watched it because my wife wanted to see it. I was pleasantly surprised, though, because it turned out to be a hybrid of American Pie (see reviews of American Pie 2 and American Wedding) and Van Wilder.

If you don’t like that kind of humor, you can skip over this review.

Harold and Kumar is a buddy flick—and the movie’s title says it all. It’s Friday night, and the guys get a craving for White Castle after seeing a commercial. Unfortunately, the local restaurant has been closed down, and it’s a 45-minute drive to the closest one.

Their car ride to White Castle leads to being attacked by a raccoon, performing quick surgery on a gunshot victim, having their car stolen by Neil Patrick Harris (a.k.a. Doogie Howser), dealing with a crazy cop, and hang gliding their way to White Castle. Yes, they’re crazy circumstances—and there are even more I haven’t shared. But Harold and Kumar has great comic timing and dialogue that appealed to the juvenile side of my humor palette.

Extras on the DVD include commentary, deleted/alternate scenes, bloopers, and a making-of featurette.

GRADE: A (movie), B+ (DVD)
