Goodnight, Thank You, You've Been a Lovely Audience is the DVD recording of a live concert performance by Sinead O'Connor, filmed in her native Dublin, Ireland. I must admit, I never knew how drop-dead talented O’Connor was. I was like most people—thinking of Sinead O'Connor had me thinking of a bald-headed rebel who quit the music business because she couldn't stand the politics of it. But when I first saw this video, one song held my interest, and the next thing you know, my mouth was wide open. This lady is incredible!

It's nice to see someone with raw talent become a star for a change. Ms. O'Connor comes on stage wearing cheap thong sandals, baggy jeans, and a flowing blouse several sizes too large. Her hair is there—but in a crew-cut style. No make-up. She's not playing games with the audience. She's not there to dance or strut her stuff. She's there to sing. And sing she does.

From old favorites like “Nothing Compares 2 U” and “The Last Day of Our Acquaintance” to brand new (old) Irish folk songs like “Molly Malone” and “The Singing Bird,” she's simply amazing. She does her old songs much better than she did in the past. “Fire on Babylon” will bring you to tears.

She tells stories, but only part of them. You have to let your imagination take over. Listen to “I am Stretched on Your Grave,” and try not to feel the rustlings of anger and hurt of being left behind. Hear her yell out her grief in “Fire on Babylon.”

This woman is no woman—nor a man. She’s raw emotion. Pure open your mouth wide and let it out feeling.

I dare you to watch this and not be touched.
