Bodies, Rest & Motion is an early ‘90s film you may have missed. Dubbed a romantic comedy, the film stars Tim Roth as Nick, a bored and unreliable TV salesman, and Bridget Fonda as Beth, the girlfriend who deserves better. Together, Nick and Beth are planning to leave Arizona for a better life in Montana.

Nick is still super-close to his ex-girlfriend, Carol (Phoebe Cates), who also happens to be Beth's best friend and their neighbor. While Nick spends his time playing tickle with Carol and sealing the deal on a free large screen TV, his parting gift from the Appliance Store, Beth is home packing their junk for the move.

But Nick has a change of heart and decides to head to Montana without Beth. Not surprisingly, he tells Carol to deliver the news. What will Beth do now?

Enter a pot-smoking, never-been-out-of-town housepainter, Sid (Eric Stoltz). He has the weekend to paint the rental house, and he hopes to bag Beth for his own. He's optimistic, cheerful, and philosophical, and he’s just what she needs. By the end of the weekend, Nick has another change of heart, and he heads back to Arizona to claim Beth again. But will she decide to stay with the painter?

Bodies, Rest & Motion is an entertaining flick that delivers a few laughs and a couple of “Don’t do it, girl!” moments. It’s a 95-minute view into the lives of four people who live their lives a day at a time, ‘90s style. Don’t be put off by the romantic comedy claim; it’s more of a drama than a romance.

I like this film because you never know what will happen next. The only predictable element is that Tim Roth’s character is a low-down dirty dog. The others dance around him, and the viewers wait to see what happens.

If you’re looking for a little entertainment, a good soundtrack, and a glance back at 1993, check out Bodies, Rest & Motion.
