Since I haven’t made it to the beach yet this season, I decided to take it out on my music review. This delightfully exotic mix of mostly instrumentals will whisk you away to a tropical paradise and surround you with a lovely, warm ocean breeze. The sound is so incredibly rich and engaging, it’s magical.

It was recorded on the road by recording engineer David Baker during his second vacation in Bali. The clarity of the mix and texture of sounds here are absolutely astounding. This music all about percussion and the style is remarkable. It’s mysterious and romantic, soothing and intense.

There are bongos and conch shells and chimes of some kind. The opening track, “Arrival in Mas,” incorporates a gorgeous blend of sounds including wind, vocals and chimes.

Most of the tracks here are in eighth notes. Hence, for the most part, this isn't the kind of music you can dance to. It’s extremely unique and certainly not for everyone. But if you have a penchant for the unusual, you just want to escape without having to actually get on a plane, Pitamaha is definitely worth a listen.
