This splendidly gritty new release by Luda features an extraordinary list of guests. Though it’s all good, the lyrics are the best part about this album, offering a synergistic mix of clever wit and remarkable insight, all laced with cunning humor. The songs are in perfect sequence, quelling the angst with comic relief with impeccable timing.
The intro is aptly named “Warning” and it’s followed by the intriguing (and disturbing) “Grew Up a Screw Up” featuring Young Jeezy. Despite the fact that the next track has been overplayed on the airwaves these days, “Money Maker,” featuring Pharrell, is destined to be a classic. This one is energetic, sexy and very danceable with genius lyrics. “Girls Gone Wild” is another excellent dance tune with sweet lyrics and deliciously smooth rap stylings. “Ultimate Satisfaction,” featuring Field Mob has gorgeous vocals and a great beat. “Mouths to Feed” is sweet, melancholy and has the best line I think I’ve ever heard: “My kid made me a grownup.” (This from someone with no kids, though I can only imagine) “End of the Night” with Bobby Valentino is peaceful and melodic. “Do Your Time” is harsh, chilling and will definitely leave you thinking.
Release Therapy is likely one of the best hip-hop albums I’ve heard this year and, if you’re a true fan, a definite must for your library.
