The sun is shining, and everything is peaceful when Pia (Nadia Farès) and her husband, Rob (Robert Taylor), head out for a relaxing day of fishing. But then a storm blows in, forcing the couple to seek shelter on a remote island somewhere in Australia.
While looking for a phone and some shelter from the rain, they explore an old farmhouse, where Rob discovers something that could mean they’ll never leave the island alive. In fact, he knows they won’t leave alive unless they can get away before they’re caught. But a demented father (John Brumpton) and his equally crazy sons discover the couple and decide that they want to have a little fun with them. Not waiting around for justice to serve these men, Pia goes to work, and a night of brutal survival ensues.
The most surprising thing about this movie is Pia. No whiny, scared French girl here. No hiding behind her husband’s back. She fights back with a vengeance that’ll make you wince—and that’s putting it mildly. After her husband ends up with a broken leg, she turns into a female MacGyver—only a whole lot deadlier. As she tells her husband, her father once told her, “To catch a mad dog, you must think like a mad dog.”
Storm Warning is filled with brutal, intense, nail-biting suspense. It’s so intense, in fact, that you’ll find yourself yelling things like, “Hurry up! He’s coming down the stairs!” or “Find the freaking keys and get out of there!” at the television while sitting on the edge of your seat. The acting is a lot better than most movies of this caliber, and Nadia Farès puts on a convincing performance as Pia, a woman determined not to be a victim.
Movies like Storm Warning definitely aren’t for everyone, but if you like slasher-type horror with a hefty amount of brutality and tension so sharp it’ll turn your hair white, this movie is one of the best of the bunch.
