It must be really hard for young women to come up with music that doesn’t sound like every other young woman in the music business. Angel Taylor almost accomplishes this with her sweet voice and saucy tunes, but she still sounds like a lot of the pop music I hear on the radio, which, in the end, won’t help her stand out.
Love Travels is a twelve-track collection of love songs. Some have a jaunty beat, while others are slow and somewhat mournful. With a blend of piano, strings, and drumbeats, Angel Taylor throws her entire personality and soul into each song. And, if you listen closely, you’ll even hear a hint of Sheryl Crow in Ms. Taylor’s voice, especially in the song “Don’t Forget Me in Time.”
Though none of the songs compelled me to fall in love with Angel Taylor’s music, I did enjoy such tunes as “Make Me Believe,” with its brisk beat and lively lyrics, along with “Like You Do,” an upbeat song about staying with a cheating boyfriend because nobody loves you like he does, and “Feed Your Ego,” about not feeding a guy’s ego to get him to keep loving you.
In other songs, such as “Chai Tea Latte,” the lyrics sound like something a thirteen-year-old, with a crush on the cutest boy in school, threw together. However, I do admire Ms. Taylor for adding a bonus track, not listed on the cover, where she confesses that God is her true Father, and that He will never let her down—that takes guts in today’s world, especially coming from a pop/rock singer.
All in all, Angel Taylor’s Love Travels is a pretty good album. And though she failed to capture my spirit with at least one of her songs, I’ll still stick this one in my CD player and listen to it every now and then when I get a craving for something young and feverish, with a hint of piano music.
