When one of my favorite country music artists releases a greatest hits CD, I snatch it off the shelf as quick as I can. I’ve been a fan of Tim McGraw since I blasted “Indian Outlaw” from my CD player while lying in the sun close to twenty years ago—it’s the type of country song you just have to crank up. And McGraw has plenty of those to choose from, especially on his latest two-CD collection, Number One Hits .

One of the many reasons I love Tim McGraw is because he’s southern, from the tip of his black cowboy hat to the bottom of his cowboy boots. He’s also a bit of an outlaw when it comes to country music. He doesn’t stuff his songs into a formula and crank them out like most everyone else. He gives us country and rock with an alternative twist. “Where the Green Grass Grows” is definitely country, but “Felt Good on My Lips” (my new favorite country song) leans toward rock and alternative, mixed with his country-sounding voice. You have got to hear that one!

“Don’t Take the Girl” and “Grown Men Don’t Cry” might bring a tear to your eye, while, at the same time, “Last Dollar (Fly Away)” and “Live Like You Were Dying” will inspire and lift you up. Two of my favorite songs are “Not a Moment Too Soon,” a song about finally finding love, and “Everywhere,” a song about losing a love and seeing her everywhere he travels.

In my opinion, Tim McGraw has never released a bad song. He’s the artist I listen to when I’m feeling down, because even his sad songs like “Please Remember Me” and “If You’re Reading This” (not included on this CD), can bring me up even though they make me cry buckets.

For those of you who are a big Tim McGraw fan like me (and who like to dance while rocking out to country), you simply can’t miss Tim McGraw: Number One Hits. And for those who are thinking about trying country, this is one of the best places to start, especially since there isn’t a lot of twang in McGraw’s music. I simply love him!
