With winter storms blasting their way across the country, you’ll want to have plenty of snowy-day diversions on hand, ready for those days when you’re stuck inside. If your little one is a fan of Disney Jr.’s Mickey Mouse Clubhouse—and, especially, Mickey’s gal-pal Minnie—Minnie’s Winter Bow Show is sure to provide plenty of Minnie-themed winter fun.

Minnie’s Winter Bow Show follows Minnie on a snowy adventure through a magical winter wonderland. While she’s busy preparing for her big Winter Bow Show, Minnie forgets that her nieces, Millie and Melody, were planning to come for a visit. The girls try to help their favorite aunt, but when their well-meaning attempts go horribly wrong, they decide to wander off on their own to keep from doing any more damage. They end up flying away in a hot air balloon, and although Minnie is able to catch up with them, they all end up floating far, far away—so far that they’ll need some special tools from a special friend to get them back to her Bow-tique in time for the show.

This frilly, winter-themed full-length adventure offers a twist on the typical episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Instead of focusing on Mickey and his friends, Minnie leaves her friends behind to take center stage—and, as a result, the whole tone of the special feels different. The vibrant, primary-color palette gets a pastel pink makeover, and everything seems to be covered in pretty ruffles and bows. And instead of Mickey’s faithful friend Toodles by her side, Minnie is joined with pretty pink Cuteles, who has some tools of her own.

The Minnie-themed design is definitely cute for little girly-girls who love all things pink. Still, some of the changes take away from the show’s signature charm. Instead of the classic songs, Minnie gets her own songs—which, in general, aren’t as catchy or as memorable as the show’s usual tunes. And while Minnie’s mischievous nieces are certainly cute, the special definitely feels the absence of other series regulars—like trouble-making Pete.

Still, the show’s DVD extras tend to make up for anything that the special lacks. The DVD includes three fun bonus episodes: “Chef Goofy on the Go,” “Sea Captain Mickey,” and Minnie’s lovable outer-space adventure, “Martian Minnie’s Tea Party.” And fans of Minnie’s Bow-Toons will love the 10 included shorts.

Minnie’s Winter Bow Show may not have the same familiar charm of the popular Mickey Mouse Clubhouse series, but bow-loving fans of the series will love discovering shimmering snowflakes and pretty winter flowers as they join Minnie and her nieces on their winter adventure. It might not become an instant favorite, but it’s a still a fun pick for snow-day entertainment.
