It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown

How can you go wrong with Charlie Brown? It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown brings all of our favorite characters back for the Easter holidays: Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Sally, Linus, Lucy, Snoopy, and, of course, Charlie Brown.

In this story, Peppermint Patty tries to teach Marcie how to color Easter eggs. They have to make several trips to the store for more eggs after Marcie fries them, puts them in the waffle iron, the toaster, and the oven, and then finally cracks them open into boiling water.

Meanwhile, Lucy is preparing for her own Easter egg hunt by decorating and hiding the eggs, so she can find them herself in the morning.

All the while, Linus tries to convince everyone that they don’t need to go through all of this trouble because the Easter Beagle will be coming and bringing eggs for all the good little girls and boys. Sally wants to believe him, but memories of waiting in a pumpkin patch for the Great Pumpkin have her torn.

This story brings all the characters back to life for me—or at least, their cartoon version. I had forgotten some of their quirks—like how Marcie always calls Peppermint Patty “Sir” and how Peppermint Patty always calls Charlie Brown “Chuck.” It’s also nice to remember Sally’s adoration for Linus. “I really want to believe you, because I like you.” Don’t we all feel like that sometimes?

My daughter enjoys looking at the pictures, and the story gets her excited about Easter. Luckily, though, she hasn’t asked if the Easter Beagle will be coming to our house.

I would definitely recommend It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown—especially to those who grew up with the Peanuts gang and want to pass on something they loved as a child to their own children.
