Loot

Read Time:1 Minute, 33 Second

Players: 2-8
Playing Time: 20 minutes

If you’re anything like me, you probably grew up playing Pirates & Sailors (it’s the ocean-going version of Cops & Robbers). Then you got older, and suddenly piracy wasn’t cool anymore (Geena Davis, America is looking at you). But then, like a spooky ghost pirate on “Scooby Doo” rising from the grave (except it was really only Old Man Johnson), pirates were cool again. Aargh! With films like Pirates of the Caribbean, and movie characters like Alan Tudyk’s awesome Steve the Pirate from Dodgeball, piracy was coming back in a big way. But maybe you’ve been asking yourself, “Self, this is all very well and good, but I want a simple card game for 2-8 players and ages 10 & up that uses a pirate theme.” Well, leave it to the fine people at Gamewright to answer your prayers.

Yes, “Loot” is the newest and best of the pirate-themed card games (okay, it’s probably the only one). Using a mix of different types of cards (these being Merchant Ships, Pirate Ships, Pirate Captains, and the Admiral), your goal is to pillage, plunder, and send your opponents down to the briny deep of Davey Jones’ Locker by collecting the most gold before the card pile runs out. The merchant ships have different gold denominations, from 2 up through 8, and are captured using your arsenal of pirate ships and scurvy, villainous, scalawag pirate captains.

As you might imagine, this game is as much fun as you the player make it. It’s a rather simple game, similar to others in the Gamewright family, with cards of various colors and denominations. The theme, though, is what sets this game apart. If you’re willing to get into it, and really “be” a pirate, then you’ll be “yo-ho”-ing and rum-swigging your way to an excellent time.
