Very Special Christmas

This is a wonderful collection of timeless classics by an eclectic mix of artists, complete with all your holiday favorites rendered with a unique spin.

The disc opens with “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” by the Pointer Sisters. The vocal harmonies on this track are magnificent. Whitney Houston’s rendition of “Do You Hear What I Hear” is pure and sweet. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s live-recorded version of “Merry Christmas Baby” really gets things moving with the Boss’s distinctive vocals and the band’s synergistic musicianship. John Cougar Mellencamp’s “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” is guaranteed to have your feet tapping. Madonna’s interpretation of “Santa Baby” is more pouty than sexy and rather heavy on the “boop boop be do.”

I’m particularly fond of Sting’s hauntingly beautiful performance of “Gabriel’s Message.” My absolute favorite track here is “Christmas in Hollis” by Run-D.M.C. It’s energetic with bluesy undertones and lyrics that have me grinning from ear to ear every time I listen.

This collection is sure to get your holiday party grooving in no time. A Very Special Christmas definitely has a little bit of something for everyone.
