Dylanesque

Everything about this album screams ear candy; from the appealing cover design, to the juicy colorful disc itself, all the way through to the remarkably clever liner notes.

It opens up with “Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues.” There’s a good deal of delicious harmonica work by Ferry here and a nice strong bass line. He absolutely nails Dylan’s signature vocal style throughout, but especially on the second track, “Simple Twist of Fate”. “The Times They Are A’Changin’” is rich with wise lyrics and gorgeous vocal harmonies. “All I Really Wanna Do” is cheerful and melodic with lovely harp work. “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” is sweet and mellow. Ferry’s interpretation of “Positively 4th Street” is a gorgeous rendition of this classic ballad. The pace picks up again with “If Not For You.” And “Baby Let Me Follow You Down” keeps things kicking with some sweet harmonica and a nice upbeat tempo. It all closes out, leaving any Dylan fan wanting more, with the energetic “All Along the Watchtower.” There’s plenty of powerful vocals and guitar work on this one.

Dylanesque is a beautiful little slice of rock and roll history and Ferry definitely delivers a heartfelt and elegantly-executed tribute to this rock and roll great.
