E-Author Spotlight: Marie Treanor

Read Time:3 Minute, 5 Second

This month we head to Glasgow, Scotland to meet January’s E-author, Marie Treanor. You’re guaranteed to get lost in her intrigue-filled and haunting paranormal romances. She’s simply one of the best e-book authors online.

As a child, Ms. Treanor’s mother had no problem getting her to play outside. She loved to play imaginary games, with or without other people, and was more than happy to get out of her mother’s hair for a few hours. She was once vastly entertained by a woman berating her child on the bus, expecially when the woman finished up with, “You’re getting more like your father every day! You’re a wee pig!” That kept her entertained for months.

Ms. Treanor collects books—old books, beautiful books, and books she particularly enjoyed. She always wants more, and has a serious space crisis because she never wants to get rid of any of them.

I always like to ask my authors about their strangest dreams, and sometimes I get a really good answer like Ms. Treanor’s. She dreams of a house that she lives in, but she keeps discovering new bits of it, some of
which is familiar to her, and she thinks, “Wow, I forgot about these rooms!” Then she discovers completely new ones that she’s never seen before. She finds it especially bizarre when she encounters these same rooms in dreams a few weeks or months later. Reminds me of Rose Red or the Winchester Mansion.

Ms. Treanor is passionate about her husband and kids, and they are among her favorite things, along with: coffee, chocolate, black and white films, the Marx Brothers, friends, warm sun, Mediterranean food, sea and
sandy beaches, old furniture, old books, wine, music, and the “dawn chorus”.

On Writing, in Ms Treanor’s Own Words

What or who inspires you to write?

Everything! Where I live, people I meet, the history around
me, books, television programs, pictures, faces…

Why did you begin writing?

I can’t remember. I’ve always written stories, ever since I
could hold a pencil and form the letters. I suppose I began writing with a
serious view to publication to try and escape a job I hated, but I would always
have written something, good or bad!

Which author inspires you?

LOTS of authors inspire me! If I had to name just one, it
would probably be Scottish historical novelist Dorothy Dunnett, but there were
lots before and lots after her too!

What do you find most rewarding about writing?

When readers enjoy my books and tell me so. Although I also
like when my characters talk to me and insist on the story going a particular
direction.

Have you experienced writer’s block? And if so, how did
you cure it?

I don’t think I have—touch wood! I have sometimes got stuck
on a story because I felt it wasn’t working for one reason or another, but I
generally go back to it later when I’ve worked out what the problem is. In the
meantime, I go on to something else.

When is your next book due out, and what’s it about?

The next one that I know of is Demon Lover, in April
2010 from Samhain Publishing. It’s co-written with the very talented Bonnie
Dee, and is the second of our Fairytale Fantasies. Demon Lover is
our take on Rumpelstiltskin—and no, that is not his name!
