Dreams of Beauty is a wonderful and imaginative spin on the Sleeping Beauty fairytale. I simply could not stop reading this magical tale once I started.

After losing her parents at a young age, Emme has lived her entire life in Briarswood with her brother and sister-in-law. She dreams of something more, but the future seems elusive and fate doesn’t seem to favor her. She knows there’s something wonderful waiting for her out there, but she can’t quite grasp it.

At night, she dreams of Davian Hawthorne, a handsome young man on horseback, being chased by his aunt—a sorceress named Lady Malicine. He’s stolen a potion that will keep a person young and beautiful for eternity—with a price—and she wants it back at any cost. Once Emme awakens from the dream, she researches the Hawthorne mansion and finds out that Davian and Malicine disappeared over a hundred years ago, and that her dreams are actual events that happened in the past.

Briarswood has been dormant for many years, but a descendent of Davian’s moves in, and she plans to sell Hawthorne mansion as soon as Davian’s sister, who is over 100 years old, dies, turning Briarswood into an industrial town where no one can live. Soon it’s up to Emme to find Davian, awaken him, and save the town and perhaps find her destiny in the process.

Dreams of Beauty brings the reader a message that beauty is not only found in a person’s appearance, but in their actions. Emme is a brilliant character full of spunk and dreams—she reaches beyond her comfort zone to save her fellow man.

I also like that Emme is the heroine who kisses the hero and saves the day instead of the usual other way around. She’s a bit shy, making her incredibly cute, but you never doubt how tough she is.

With pulse-pounding chases, near misses, and a haunting, clever storyline, Dreams of Beauty is simply one of the best e-books I’ve read to date. Please don’t pass this one by. I promise it’ll make your lunch hour a pleasure.
