Since her husband passed away, Gertie Johnson has had too much time on her hands, so she starts meddling in Sheriff Blaze Johnson’s cases. He also happens to be her son. When Chester Lampi takes a bullet to the head while waiting for a deer in his hunting blind, Gertie can’t resist investigating, even though Sheriff Blaze has already ruled the death an accident—or quite possibly suicide.

Gertie is one spunky old gal who isn’t about to drag out the rocking chair now that she’s reached retirement age—and widowhood to boot. Her observations of people and life will keep you laughing out loud. She’s a precocious old woman with a devil-may-care attitude, but she’s determined as ever to solve this murder.
Fast-paced, baffling, and witty, with a host of odd-ball characters, Murder Passes the Buck is a whole lot of fun to read. Suspects abound in this small town murder mystery, keeping you guessing and reassessing each clue and what it points to. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, up pops a different angle that needs exploring.
Gertie Johnson is definitely a memorable character, and you’re going to want to spend time with her through each mystery in the series. I’m so looking forward to reading the next one in line. Do yourself a favor and join me.
