Unabridged Digital Audiobook

Read by Connor White

In .nightsandweekends.com/articles/16/NW1600110.php>Shivers!: The Pirate Who’s Afraid of Everything, authors Annabeth Bondor-Stone and Connor White introduced young readers to a petrified pirate on a wild adventure. And in the audio edition of the follow-up, Shivers!: The Pirate Who’s Back in Bunny Slippers, he’s forced out of his comfort zone to do it all over again.

The story continues the saga of scaredy-pirate Shivers, his best friend, Margo, and his clever fish friend, Albee. After returning from his first shocking adventure, Shivers is relieved to get back to his beloved ship, the Land Lady, which is safely beached in New Jersey. But Mayor Sheila B. President is convinced that he’s stolen the famed Treasure Torch, and she’s threatened to keep his ship unless he returns it. Petrified by the thought of losing his ship and having to go out to sea with his parents—and without his best friend—Shivers enlists Margo for another wild adventure to return the stolen treasure and get his ship back.

Shivers never intended to go on a second adventure—because the first was terrifying enough! But the second installment in this series is every bit as fun as the first. It’s playful and witty and wonderfully quirky, following Shivers, Margo, and Albee on a scavenger hunt of sorts on their quest to find the Treasure Torch. Along the way, they take part in a hotdog eating contest, they crash a festival full of people named Frank, and they join forces with Shivers’s brave (but rather dim-witted) older brother, Brock.

Each part of the journey is action-packed and often outrageously funny—but it’s all cleverly written with amusing alliteration, too. Young readers will love the comical characters, and they’ll enjoy following the clues on this over-the-top adventure—but it’s so smart and silly that parents will find themselves caught up in the story, too.

Of course, it helps that everything is perfectly portrayed by co-author Connor White’s narration. It’s not easy to capture the personalities of this many comical characters—not to mention a main character who shrieks and wails his way through most of the story—but White does it all with flair. In fact, his silly voices and expressive read add to the fun of this wacky tale.

If you’re heading out on an adventure with the family, bring this wildly entertaining audiobook along for the ride. Kids will love the craziness of the mystery, and parents will love the smart sense of humor. It’s sure to make the Arrrrr!s on the road fly by.
