Reptile

Eric Clapton is one of the best guitar players of all time. The music that he played from his days with The Yardbirds up to the present is phenomenal. He proves that he still has what it takes to make a quality CD with his 2001 release, Reptile.

Reptile isn’t the same as his music from the early days in his career. It is more musically diverse than that of his days with Cream. This release has more of a light feel to it with a primarily jazz-based influence as noted from the first song that goes by the CD’s name.

This song is an instrumental that sets the mood for the whole album. The song that follows, “Got You on My Mind” has the same bluesy feel as “Sweet Home Chicago.” This song will have you singing after the first run through the chorus.

One song that might be recognized off this album is “Second Nature.” Those of us in the retail business at Eddie Bauer know this song from the past summer. I have also heard it on classic rock stations and easy listening stations. Not to say that I listen to easy listening, but when riding with my parents, they usually have it on.

Reptile is an excellent album by an excellent artist. Its musical variety shows that no artist has to stay to the same sound through his or her whole career. However, most of the songs were a little too light for me. I was hoping for a little more of the sound that he had on his Journeyman album. I’m going to have to give Reptile an 8 or DAMS COOL.
