CIFF 2009: It’s Starting!
The 33rd Cleveland International Film Festival begins tomorrow!
This year’s lineup includes more than 140 features and 170 shorts, which will be shown in a single location over ten wild-and-crazy days. I’ll be there for the last four of those wild-and-crazy days, so, if you’re headed to the festival, keep an eye out for the bright yellow NightsAndWeekends.com bag. If you spot me, be sure to pull me out of my movie-going haze and say hello!
What I’m Looking Forward To:
I’ve planned my CIFF schedule about as carefully as one would plan a nuclear attack. Everything’s circled and starred and highlighted and color-coded — and I’ve already worn right through my first program guide (fortunately, I have two others). Some of this year’s must-sees include:
The Candidate, a Danish thriller about a lawyer who finds himself accused of a murder he didn’t commit
Dean Spanley, starring Peter O’Toole
One Day in Africa, a documentary by A Map for Saturday filmmaker Brook Silva-Braga
Sparrow, a Hong Kong caper film directed by Johnnie To
Surveillance, starring Julia Ormond and Bill Pullman as FBI agents who are investigating a murder in a small town
I’ll be checking in every day to post thoughts and highlights right here on the N&W.com blog — and I’ll be writing reviews, too. So be sure to check back next week (starting on Thursday) for the news from CIFF.
