The good thing about Nickelback is that they’re taking a Led Zeppelin approach to the music industry. They keep their music fresh on the radio, and they keep releasing albums over short periods of time. However, with their new album, they should have taken a little more time to perfect things.
Long Road is a CD that has many great qualities, but there are some things that take away from its potential. The guitar riffs, drum beat, and bass line lead to a typical Nickelback sound. Some of the lyrics on this CD are just lame and leave something to be desired.
The first song is “Flat on the Floor.” The riffs are fast and heavy—and my attention was drawn into the album right away with this tune. However, after listening to the CD a second time, I noticed that this song has the same riff as a song on Nickelback’s Silver Side Up release. The radio release “Someday” can also be found on this disc, but the song’s sound closely reflects that of “How You Remind Me.” Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good track, but once radio overplays it, nobody wants to listen to it anymore.
Some songs on Long Road are just filler songs—one of which is “Figured You Out.” The musical sound on this track is awesome, but the lyrics sound like they were written by a couple of horny high-schoolers. I would expect something better from a band that came from the homeland of Rush and Our Lady Peace.
Long Road is a decent CD for hardcore Nickelback fans, but if you’re looking for that first Nickelback album to spark your interest, don’t get this one. I suggest their other albums, such as Curb, The State, or Silver Side Up. The stuff on these CDs is much better.
