Say Cheese!

Read Time:2 Minute, 19 Second

Players: 2-4 (ages 6+)

Playing Time: 5-10 minutes

Ever since I was a kid, summertime has been cottage time. On weekends, my family would spend our days playing on the beach. Then, after a big, tasty meal of burgers and chips and strawberry pie, we’d often end the day by playing a game or two. And it’s still the same today, whether I’m at the cottage or a campground: summer evenings are for playing games. And, this summer, you can bet that we’ll be playing Say Cheese!

Game play is super-quick and super-simple—perfect for campers of all ages. Before the game begins, each player gets a pair of dice—each of which has a star on one side and different character icons on the others. A deck of 25 photo booth cards (each one depicting a pair of photo booth photos, featuring two characters) is placed face-down in the center of the table, and the top two are placed face-up, on either side.

On the count of three, players begin rolling their dice as quickly as possible, trying to match the icons on their dice to the characters on either of the cards. If you get a match (or if you roll one of the correct characters and one star—called a “wild side”), you shout, “Cheese!” and collect the card. You then replace the card with another one from the deck and play continues.

Once all of the cards have been collected, players count their cards—and the player with the most cards wins the game.

Say Cheese! is a fast and frantic game that’s every bit as challenging for grown-ups as it is for kids. You’ve got to act fast—rolling the dice as quickly as possible, all the while trying to identify the icons on the dice and match them to the pictures on the cards. There are 10 different characters—and some of them look a lot alike—so it’s trickier than you might think. But that only adds to the fun.

No matter what their age, players will be scrambling to make a match before their opponents. To win, you need to be able to think fast. You need a fair amount of hand-eye coordination. And you need a bit of luck, too. So, in the end, it’s really anybody’s game.

There’s definitely never a dull moment when you’re playing Say Cheese! It’s easy to learn, and it only takes a few minutes to play—but it’s a whole lot of fast-moving, wild-and-crazy fun for the whole family. It’s a great way to end a fun day of swimming and sandcastles and camp fires.
