Play Time: About three weeks (or until someone gives up)

If you’ve got a few weeks to spare, Trivial Pursuit is a spectacular way to waste your time. Stock up on chips and dip, and make yourself comfortable…

Trivial Pursuit is a game in which a handful of players chase in circles around a board, trying to answer questions that only people who spend their spare time reading encyclopedias can answer (the rest of the planet is forced to guess).

The object of the game is to answer questions correctly when your game piece has landed on one of the six special spaces on the board. And if you answer one question of each category correctly, you can then head for the middle of the board, where you dance around, trying to land exactly in the middle. When you finally land in the middle, your opponents then force you to answer a question from the category of which you’re least likely to know the answer.

Trivial Pursuit is an exercise in futility. It is, however, fun if you don’t take yourself too seriously – and if you’re good at making up creative answers. If you’ve got all the time in the world to spend playing a game that will most likely make you feel like an idiot, go for it. You may even acquire some worthless knowledge in the process.
