It’s a beautifully sunny Saturday afternoon. It’s spring (let’s say maybe, oh, mid-May...), and it’s such a gorgeous day that you’ve decided to put the top down and go for a cruise along the coastline. You check your CD collection for the perfect soundtrack to this perfectly lazy Saturday afternoon. You’re looking for something easy-going and happy.

You’re looking for The Ocean Blue.

Beneath the Rhythm and Sound is a carefree, simple album. The music is so light and airy –- and it flows so perfectly –- that listening to it will make you feel like you’re floating. The album has an excellent mix of dreamy songs (like “Ice Skating at Night”) and somewhat bouncy songs (like “Sublime”). It’s not necessarily dance music, though a few of the songs may cause you to spontaneously bust a move. It’s head-bobbing music.

The Ocean Blue’s music is extremely poppy. And I don’t mean that in the N’Sync-glitzy-cheeseball-pop sense. I mean it in the fun-and-simple-Beatles-pop sense. These guys don’t need expensive costumes and fancy dance moves to make them great musicians.

I definitely recommend adding Beneath the Rhythm and Sound to your collection –- because you never know when a gorgeous Saturday afternoon is going to sneak up on you.

Ed. Note: I've looked all over the Internet to find a place where you could pick up a copy of this album, but I still haven't been able to find it. You can, however, buy any of The Ocean Blue's other albums. For more information about the band, see their somewhat-official web site.
