Ah, the Muppets! I often find myself falling back on them in times of crisis -- because they just make me so darn happy. Even my husband has figured out the Muppets’ medicinal effect on me -- so when I was battling a kidney stone a while back, he brought me a surprise: The Muppet Movie.

Once upon a time, there was just Kermit -- just a singing frog in the swamp. Then, one day, Kermit met a big Hollywood agent (who just happened to by fishing in Kermit’s swamp). The agent points out an ad calling for frogs to audition in Hollywood -- and that’s where The Muppet Movie begins.

Kermit decides to take the agent’s advice and head west. On his way out of town, he meets Fozzie (as he’s being booed off the stage), and the two of them set off in Fozzie’s uncle’s Studebaker. Unfortunately, Kermit also meets Doc Hopper, who wants to use him as the spokesfrog for his expanding chain of frog leg restaurants -- and he won’t take no for an answer.

So Kermit and Fozzie set out west -- with Hopper always close behind. As the pair sings their way across the country, they make all kinds of new friends -- and are joined by a few others who are in search of fame and fortune.

It had been ages since I’d last seen this movie -- and I still love it. It’s full of crazy Muppet one-liners and silly Muppet songs -- not to mention it’s overflowing with cameos by everyone from Steve Martin to Milton Berle. And it’s such an inspiring movie that it’ll make you want to hop right into your Studebaker and drive until you get to Hollywood and become a star.
