In When I Wished I Was Alone, author Dave Cutler tells the tale of a small boy who becomes angry with his family and wishes he was alone. Through magical happenstance his wish is granted, and the boy finds himself experiencing the ups and downs of being alone. This magical intervention provides the boy some valuable lessons about anger and the importance of family.

Reminiscent of the classic, Where the Wild Things Are, Cutler's first children's book delivers both captivating illustrations and an engaging storyline; a combination sure to charm and delight young readers. While it would have been nice to see the outcome steered more directly by the character and less by magic, the moral of the story is nonetheless touching and well suited to the target audience.
