The beat is smooth and steady, the mix is as clean as the picture on a plasma TV screen, the bass is strong and hard and the vocals are outstanding.
There is an enormous mix of different sounds on this album, including some intriguing rap lyrics, sweet gospel riffs and even synthesized vocals, which usually turn me off, but they work here. The lyrics can be explicit at times, but they are colorful, insightful and guaranteed to take you for a ride, with themes ranging from apathy to tenderness, from angst to spirituality.
“We Don’t Care” is catchy, melodic and very danceable. “All Falls Down” features Syleena Johnson and has some gorgeous vocals. “Slow Jamz,” featuring Twista and Jamie Foxx, is a deliciously steamy track and a perfect listen for a hot summer night.
College Dropout is perfectly mastered disc with a magnificent mix of sounds, guaranteed to make an excellent addition to any R&B collection.
