Wedding Crashers is an absolute riot. This is the funniest movie to come out in a very long time. It’s rated R, though, and it deserves it, so don’t see it if you’re the kind of person who’s offended easily.

Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Christopher Walken, Rachel McAdams, and Isla Fisher form the core of the cast, and they’re perfect in their roles. Wilson and Vaughn play John Beckwith and Jeremy Grey, divorce mediators in Washington DC who spend their weekends sneaking into weddings to meet (and bed down) women. They’ve been doing it for quite some time, and they’re really good at it. They have a complicated set of rules that cover almost every situation they might encounter. The two go so far as to concoct complicated back stories to help them blend in with the invited guests.

They’re having a great ‘season’ when Vaughn convinces Wilson to crash the wedding of Treasury Secretary William Cleary’s (Walken) daughter. The two girls at the top of the ‘hit list’ turn out to be Secretary Cleary’s other two daughters. John falls hard for Claire Cleary (McAdams), while Jeremy’s beachfront ‘encounter’ with Gloria Cleary (Fisher) turns into something less than stable. The two of them go with the rest of the family to the Cleary family compound to finish the weekend. While they’re there, John and Jeremy suffer a multitude of comical mishaps at the hands of the dysfunctional Cleary family, but since it’s a Hollywood movie, they also learn a few unexpected lessons about love and relationships.

This is a great movie where every vulgar line and every sweet moment come off perfectly. Vaughn’s hyperactive personality is a great foil for the laid-back and love-struck Wilson. Watching Vaughn try to escape the clutches of an overly possessive Fisher is worth the price of admission by itself. As always, Walken’s deadpan delivery is remarkable. I couldn’t find anything not to like in this movie.

Get a sitter for the kids and enjoy a raucous night out. This is a movie you can’t miss seeing this summer.
