Who doesn’t love a princess? Their lives seem to be something straight out of a fairy tale: their royal balls and their royal lifestyles and their regal wardrobes—and their handsome prince. We study their every move and mimic their style. Theirs is a life that we can only dream about.

It was no different for Isabella Cordage, Her Royal Highness the Princess of Gallagher—who would someday be the Queen of Bisbania. Isabella, the daughter of a minor earl, captured the heart of the prince—and the hearts of the people of Bisbania. Hers was a fascinating story—one that very few really know…until now.

This “tell-all” novel reveals the deepest, darkest secrets of the woman who would be queen—told by someone who knew her best (though you don’t know who that is, exactly, until about halfway through the book). The book tells of Isabella’s Yale education and her relationship with Prince Raphael. The storyteller talks about how the people of Bisbania reacted to their new princess—about the tabloid reports and her somewhat shaky start (which earned her the nickname “Dizzy Izzy”). She also discusses the princess’s mysterious change—how she transformed from a dizzy princess to a regal, stylish, sophisticated icon with the help of Bruce Springsteen and an American mechanic named Jeff.

She even tells what happened to the princess after the plane carrying her husband and her trusted advisor crashed—how she went into exile and returned to the public eye just when the people had almost forgotten about her.

Princess Izzy and the E Street Shuffle may not be true, but it feels like it is. The story feels like a real royal tell-all—and the characters seem like real royalty. Before you know it, you’ll find yourself totally caught up in the fabulous (and mysterious) life of Princess Izzy. Hers is a story filled with all kinds of unexpected twists and turns—and the storyteller seems to end just about every chapter with something so shocking that it might just make you gasp out loud. And you’ll be so shocked that you won’t be able to stop reading—because you’ll have to read on to find out more.

In the end, there are plenty of questions left unanswered, but that just makes the story even more fascinating—because, as in most tell-alls, you never get all the answers, and you’re left to decide for yourself what you think really happened. You may also find that a few of the “secrets” that the storyteller taunted you with didn’t pay off as much as you expected—but with all the other surprises that the author throws your way, it doesn’t really matter. You’ll have plenty of other things to be shocked about.

If you’re one of those people who often find themselves pausing to watch documentaries on the royals—or the tell-all interviews with their former royal dog-walkers—you’ll be just as enchanted by Princess Izzy as I was.
