If you fell in love with the singing slugs and Roddy the Rat’s Tom Jones-style crooning while watching Flushed Away, you’ll be happy to know that you can pick up a copy of the film’s soundtrack and have the slugs serenade you—with songs about maggots or even a fabulous cover of “Mr. Lonely”—anytime you want.

The Flushed Away soundtrack isn’t your typical animated movie soundtrack, filled with sappy, dramatic themes and slow, inspiring pop songs. Instead, like the movie, the soundtrack is fun and a little bit campy. You might even call it spunky. Besides a few tracks by the slugs (though, if you ask me, there could have been more songs by the slugs), you’ll find everything from Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary” to Fatboy Slim’s “Wonderful Night”—even “Yakety Sax” by Boots Randolph. And, of course, there are a couple of Tom Jones hits (“She’s a Lady” and “What’s New Pussycat?”)—sung by the man himself instead of by Hugh Jackman’s Roddy. It’s a pretty random collection of songs—but they’re sure to put a smile on your face and a spring in your step.

If you haven’t already seen Flushed Away, the soundtrack probably won’t make a whole lot of sense to you. Without the visuals, it’s actually somewhat difficult to differentiate the slugs from Alvin and the Chipmunks. And, to the uninitiated listener, the random assortment of modern favorites mixed in with Tom Jones classics (not to mention the song about maggots) might be rather perplexing. But if you’ve seen the movie (and you loved it as much as I did), the soundtrack will bring all of the movie’s best moments rushing right back. It’s the perfect thing to keep in the car to wake you up for your morning commute—and it’ll give you a decent Flushed Away fix while you wait for the movie to come out on DVD.
