The album title fits like a glove. This interesting blend of genres is the very best of 2007, featuring a richly talented mix that is guaranteed to have you cutting the rug, singing along at the top of your lungs or both. I know I was - and I’m sure it wasn’t pretty.
Fall Out Boy’s “Thnks fr the Mmrs” makes for a dynamic opening with a strong pop beat and captivating vocal harmonies. Next up is Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend” adding a bit of punk to the mix. Gwen Stefani is joined by Akon in “The Sweet Escape” an extremely catchy, danceable track. Fergie’s “Glamorous” (featuring Ludicris) is easy to fall in love with on the first listen, with a nice high energy level and some crazy vocal sound effects.
After Justin Timberlake’s youthfully buoyant “Summer Love,” things really pick up with Ne-Yo’s “Because of You.” This sweet, soulful ditty kicks off a blissful six-track orgy of hip hop/R&B and I am in heaven. T-Pain’s “Buy You a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” featuring Yung Joc has to be one of the greatest songs released this summer, with its captivating beat and outstanding bridge, it’s impossible not to sing along and tap your feet. Lloyd’s “Get it Shawty” is smooth, sexy and extremely danceable with playful lyrics. Huey’s “Pop, Lock & Drop It” is gritty with a strong beat, nice bass line and some sassy back up vocals. Another one of my favorites is M.I.M.S.’s “Like This.” This one is hot, steamy and heavy on vocals with some seriously ill rhymes. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s “I Tried” featuring Akon is energetic and bittersweet with outstanding vocals. There are plenty more clever rhymes in Bow Wow’s “Outta My System” featuring T-Pain and Johnta Austin.
There’s a rough transition here to Kelly Clarkson’s “Never Again. This is not a bad track, in fact, the vocals are gorgeous. But on the heels of Bow Wow and T-Pain, it doesn’t work all that well. “The Great Escape” by Boys Like Girls is cheerful and danceable with nice vocal harmonies.
The balance of the disc is pretty much pop. Other featured artists include Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban.
This is a fine party album with a generous amount of play time and a little bit of something to please just about everyone.
