As the weather begins to cool and the holiday season approaches, it’s time to start thinking about your favorite holiday movies. Maybe you’re pulling out your DVDs of movies like White Christmas and A Christmas Story, along with some classic holiday specials, like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and A Charlie Brown Christmas. But, this year, you might want to add a new favorite to your collection of old holiday standbys: Disney Channel’s Phineas and Ferb: A Very Perry Christmas.

Phineas (Vincent Martella) and Ferb (Thomas Sangster) may be known for their summer vacation activities, but they need to find a way to pass the time during Christmas vacation, too. So while their parents are stuck at the airport, waiting for their grandparents’ delayed flight, the boys decide to create a deluxe Rest and Relaxation Lounge to express their gratitude to Santa.

Meanwhile, at Doofenshmirtz Evil, Inc., Dr. Doofenshmirtz (Dan Povenmire) plots to make all of Danville appear naughty on Santa’s list. When he succeeds—and the town’s letters to Santa are all returned marked “Naughty”—Phineas and Ferb work together with two of Santa’s elves to save the holiday.

With this lovable Christmas special, the geniuses behind one of the smartest shows on TV have managed to create a half-hour episode that mixes the show’s usual clever writing and smart comedy with all of the warm, fuzzy Christmas spirit that you’d normally expect from a holiday special.

All of your favorite charmingly comical characters are here. Misunderstood bully Buford (Bobby Gaylor) and brainy Baljeet (Maulik Pancholy) aid the boys in their mission, as does Isabella (Alyson Stoner)—even though her family celebrates Hanukkah instead of Christmas. Perry the Platypus (AKA Agent P) is once again working behind the scenes to foil bumbling Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s latest plan. And, of course, there’s big sister Candace (Ashley Tisdale), who spends most of the special completely freaking out while trying to figure out what Jeremy (Mitchel Musso) really wants for Christmas.

Meanwhile, there are more inventions, more amusing adventures, more subtle humor, and even a new title sequence—and it’s all guaranteed to have moms and dads chuckling right along with their kids. The episode is even loaded with catchy, kooky holiday songs, from Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s “I Really Don’t Hate Christmas” to the giant ensemble production that the boys put together to get Santa’s attention.

When it all comes together in the end, everyone is filled with the holiday spirit, the boys’ parents are none the wiser, and you and your kids will have found a new holiday favorite. So pick up a copy now, and you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy this fun holiday special before the holidays are over.

DVD Review:
Pick up a copy of A Very Perry Christmas on DVD, and you’ll get a whole lot more than just one half-hour Christmas special. You’ll also get four more Perry-centered episodes—along with another bonus episode, which is tucked away on the special features menu. Among the other random features, snippets, and Easter eggs, you’ll also find a virtual fireplace, all of the characters letters to Santa, links to all of the songs, and two awesome behind-the-scenes featurettes.

In lieu of a making-of feature, the show’s creators decided to do something fun instead—like covering their coworker’s office in sticky notes while he’s away on vacation. But if you’d like to see some actual behind-the-scenes stuff, be sure to check out Keep on Buildin’, which shows how the writers manage to crank out a whole song in just an hour.

Fans of Phineas and Ferb and their summer vacation antics won’t want to miss this fun-filled holiday special. But the fun continues throughout the DVD’s other features—so be sure to take the time to explore the rest of the disc, too.
