Who wouldn’t love to meet her favorite pop star? In Strawberry Shortcake: Jammin’ with Cherry Jam, the girls from Berry Bitty City meet pop sensation Cherry Jam—and they learn some important lessons about friendship at the same time.

Taken from the TV series Strawberry Shortcake’s Berry Bitty Adventures, Jammin’ with Cherry Jam is made up of four episodes (for a total of 88 minutes). The adventure begins with the grand opening of Berry Bitty City’s new marketplace. Strawberry Shortcake and her friends want to do something big for the celebration—like host a concert by Cherry Jam, their favorite pop star. As it turns out, all it takes is a single email, and the singer agrees to help them out.

The girls are nervous and excited to meet such a big star, but Cherry Jam turns out to be a sweet girl who just wants to get away from the big city for a while. And after she makes some new friends, she decides that Berry Bitty City is the perfect place for a vacation.

Jammin’ with Cherry Jam is a cute collection of fun-filled Strawberry Shortcake adventures. But while it’s broken up into four separate episodes—each with its own story and its own subtle message— it also tells an ongoing story that has its own beginning, middle, and end. Each episode flows into the next, so it feels more like a movie than a bunch of episodes cobbled together (or at least it would, if it weren’t for the credits and title sequences that break it up).

The series is filled with strong but lovable characters. Strawberry Shortcake and her friends all have personalities that are as individual as their fruity scents. Each one has her own likes and dislikes, her own special abilities, and her own personal style. They all own their own businesses, too—from bake shops to dance studios. And that means that just about any viewer will be able to find a character to identify with—no matter what her interests may be.

Of course, while the characters may be lovable, they aren’t always perfect. Sometimes, they get a little star-struck. Or they make unfair assumptions. Or they get so caught up in their own needs and goals that they forget about their friends. Each episode, then, also teaches young viewers an important lesson about friendship.

The characters are cute, the animation is colorful, and the stories are sweet—and that makes Strawberry Shortcake: Jammin’ with Cherry Jam a worthwhile pick for some after-school entertainment. It’s a musical, magical little adventure that’s perfect for little girls.
