Summer vacation may still be a few months away, but if you’re longing for the action and adventure of those fun-filled days of summer, you can live them vicariously through adventurous stepbrothers Phineas and Ferb (voiced by Vincent Martella and Thomas Brodie-Sangster) and their undercover pet platypus, Perry, in their latest DVD collection, Phineas and Ferb: The Perry Files: Animal Agents.
The latest Phineas and Ferb collection contains 12 episodes of the popular animated series—all loosely built around a central theme that focuses on Perry the Platypus (a.k.a. Agent P) and his fellow agents of the O.W.C.A. (Organization Without a Cool Acronym). In this collection, fans meet all kinds of other agents—like Pinky the Chihuahua, the strong but silent Agent R (a rhino), Newton the Gnu (a.k.a. Agent Silent G), and a surprising new addition to the organization, who instantly makes his presence known (for all the wrong reasons).
Many of the episodes in this collection also change up the usual Phineas and Ferb formula. Typically, each episode of the show follows both Agent P on his latest crime-fighting mission and Phineas and Ferb and their friends as they come up with some kind of over-the-top way to spend the day. This time, though, instead of spending each episode building something in their back yard, Phineas and Ferb often find themselves on different kinds of adventures—whether they’re shopping with their family at the local mega-superstore or heading off on a family vacation to Africa.
Phineas and Ferb is well-known for its smart, all-ages sense of humor—and the episodes in this collection are no exception to the rule. Though the show has aired more than 100 episodes, they’re still fresh and funny—and clever, too. In fact, this collection contains some of the show’s best—like “Lotsa Latkes,” a wacky episode that finds an army of ancient Mongols facing off against an army of mutant potatoes, or “Agent Doof,” in which Phineas and Ferb spend the entire episode as trouble-making babies. Not only do these episodes encourage kids to get outside and use their imagination, but they might also teach them a thing or two about history, science, and the world around them in the process.
Once again, Phineas and Ferb and the rest of the Flynn-Fletcher family provide hours of smart comedy and imaginative adventures in their latest collection of episodes. If you’re a long-time fan of the series, you’ll want to add it to your DVD collection. And if you’ve never seen the show, what are you waiting for? DVD Review:
The DVD release of Phineas and Ferb: The Perry Files: Animal Agents comes with a few fun extras for super-spies in training—including O.W.C.A. trading cards, an honorary agent ID badge, and a pair of spy binoculars.
The disc’s special features menu also includes six episodes of Phineas and Ferb’s talk show, Take Two with Phineas and Ferb. Each episode features a celebrity guest, from Cedric the Entertainer to Miss Piggy—but the best episode features soccer star David Beckham, who’s clearly reveling in the silliness of it all.
