If you strive to be the best—whether it’s the best parent, the best spouse, the best tennis player, or the best accountant—you can’t just sit by and watch it happen. You need to make it happen. And in There’s No Plan B for Your A-Game, former NFL player, playwright, and leadership coach Bo Eason helps those strivers to make their plan and stick to it.

Eason opens the book with his own story. At 9, he set his 20-year plan in motion: to play in the NFL. In order to achieve this goal, he sacrificed a whole lot of things that other kids enjoy. He practiced every day. He showed up early and stayed late. He refused to listen to the coaches who said he’d never make it. And he made it happen. Now, after succeeding with two of his 20-year plans, he’s presenting his methods and beliefs to businesses, athletes, and readers.

If you’re looking for some kind of magic spell that will make you a success, it isn’t here (or anywhere, for that matter). Eason doesn’t sugarcoat anything. Instead, he gives readers the pure, honest truth: if you want to be the best at what you do, you’re going to have to work—and you’re going to have to work harder than everyone else. You’re going to have to sacrifice. You’re going to have to cut out distractions—and some of the people in your life, too. And you’re going to have to overcome one obstacle after another. You’ll have to keep going when other people give up and walk away.

Of course, Eason admits that it isn’t for everyone—and that’s exactly why not just anyone can be the best. Only those who are willing to stay focused on their one goal—and to work 20 years to see it through—will truly succeed. Those strict, do-or-die requirements presented in this book will quickly scare a whole lot of readers away. And Eason’s intense, drill-sergeant style will scare even more. But stick with it. Even if you don’t fully buy into his 20-year plan for your goals, you’ll find many of the stories fascinating, and you’ll find a whole lot of inspiration, motivation, and information in this short but powerful read.

Just as Eason’s plan isn’t for everyone, his style isn’t, either. His plan is often scary, and his no-excuses style will make you feel as though he’s yelling at you from the page. But if you’re one of the few who want to be the very best—and you’re willing to do whatever it takes—you’ll get a solid (and maybe somewhat painful) kick in the pants from this all-in author.
