Escape rooms have become incredibly popular in recent years, with everyone from groups of kids to business associates working together to solve a series of timed challenges. But in The Mystery of Locked Rooms by Lindsay Currie, three young friends take on an epic escape room with a very important goal in mind.

The story finds Sarah and her escape room-loving best friends, West and Hannah, tackling their greatest challenge yet. When Sarah finds out that her family is about to lose their house—and that they’ll have to move away—she’s desperate to find a way to fix it. Her friends tell her about an old funhouse that was designed by a set of fun-loving triplets—reportedly with a treasure at the end—only to be abandoned before it could open. Determined to help Sarah’s family, they decide to conquer the funhouse and win the decades-old treasure.

Though a couple of other people have famously tried to beat the funhouse before—only to end up caught by police and arrested for trespassing—these three adventurous young friends (who call themselves The Deltas) are determined to be the ones who succeed. They manage to find their way inside, where they find themselves in a huge, dark, and dusty but colorful room where the real fun begins. Though readers may catch a plot hole or two along the way, they’ll still enjoy following along as the Deltas tackle one challenge after another: riddles and puzzles and secret passageways and physical challenges. And to complete each one, they have to work together, using their strengths and facing their fears along the way.

Young readers will get caught up in the suspense and mystery of this tense adventure, as these three friends work their way through imaginative rooms, opening up to each other about their worries and fears as they do. They’re all likable characters in their own way. And with each new challenge that these kids face, readers will hold their breath, eager to see what comes next—to find out whether the Deltas will make it out of the house with the treasure before their parents (or the police) figure out where they’ve gone. It makes for a clever and exciting read—one that will keep readers guessing until the final surprise.

For readers who love puzzles and riddles and mazes and math problems, The Mystery of Locked Rooms is a thrilling adventure. They’ll enjoy following the kids on their important quest—and joining in each challenge.
