The world’s greatest pop acts seem to have an incredible power over their loyal fans. And in the animated musical K-Pop Demon Hunters, one group of international pop sensations is tasked with protecting their fans—until a new musical rival arrives to undo all the good they’ve done.
K-Pop Demon Hunters tells the story of a hit K-Pop girl group whose music is a part of their real mission as demon hunters. The girls of Huntrix are just the latest singing trio to battle the world’s demons, who steal the souls of humans to bring them back to their king. They’re so close to defeating the demons and their king and shielding Earth for good—until a demon boy band arrives to steal their fans. And though one of the girls struggles with a dark secret, it’s more important than ever to work together.
As Huntrix prepares for the award ceremony that will finish the work they’ve been doing to protect the world from the invading demons, nothing goes as planned. Their adventure is filled with action, music, and drama as their mission is disrupted by the Saja Boys, who continue to win over more and more fans with their infectious songs, their impeccable manners, and their dreamy boy band good looks.
Their story is definitely an unexpected one—with a cool blend of animation styles, some superhero action, some likable characters, a hint of romance, and a whole lot of melodrama. While the concept may seem a little…quirky, the story is surprisingly serious. Though Ken Jeong brings a touch of humor as Huntrix’s enthusiastic and lovably oblivious manager, Bobby, it really isn’t as silly as you might expect.
Young girls haven’t always had a lot of options when it comes to strong female leads in animated films—but the girls of Huntrix all have different personalities, different styles, and different talents. While they definitely don’t get the development that they deserve, these three demon-fighting pop superstar friends are fun characters—and young viewers will love watching them go from entertaining the world to saving it (but not without eating their pre-show ramen first).
With its stylish animation, its monster-fighting heroines, and its pop music soundtrack, K-Pop Demon Hunters is a surprising adventure. It’s not the same old princess story—nor the same old cutesy cartoon action—but that’s what makes it a fun animated film for a slightly older audience.
You can join the hunters of Huntrix on their quest when K-Pop Demon Hunters debuts on Netflix on June 20, 2025.
