Changing your lifestyle is never easy—whether you’re breaking a cycle or a habit. So in Hulu’s Eenie Meanie, a young woman finds that walking away from a thrilling life of crime isn’t as easy as she’d hoped—especially when she’s asked to step in to help someone she once loved.
Eenie Meanie finds Edie (Samara Weaving) stepping back into her old life of crime to save her erratic ex, John (Karl Glusman). After spending her teen years as a getaway driver, Edie decided to start over: to go to college, get a real job, and do it all without the bad influences from her old life—especially John. But when John ends up in trouble again, Edie’s old boss, Nico (Andy Garcia), offers to let him off the hook if Edie will pull off a casino heist that doesn’t go as planned.
Edie’s friend tells her to stay away from John for a very good reason—because as soon as she gets back into his orbit, she ends up in a dangerous situation, which only gets messier and messier, thanks to John’s bumbling. And it puts her right back in a situation that she thought she’d left for good.
Edie definitely has a storied past—but her story is rather complicated. She started her life of crime as a teen in order to keep her parents out of prison—but, from there, things get a little hazy. There are references to her past, but they tend to be more of a distraction than a part of the character’s development. Whatever the case, though, she feels indebted to John for saving her life years ago—and, no matter how much of a mess he is, she can’t seem to stay away. But while John may have his charms, it’s clear that he’s completely unreliable—and that just adds to the complications for Edie.
Though a lot of the film is spent building up to the heist—and the getaway—there’s still plenty of high-speed car-chasing action here. And, for the majority of the audience, that will definitely be the film’s main draw.
Though the story is a little messy, that’s not really the most important part here. Eenie Meanie blends crime, car chases, and a little bit of comedy for the kind of entertaining crime thriller that fans of movies like Baby Driver or the Fast and Furious franchise will appreciate.
You can get behind the wheel with Edie when Eenie Meanie premieres on Hulu on August 22, 2025.
